What is Vocal?

Vocal creates opportunities for people to find out about, and have a voice in, health research. By bringing together patients, carers, artists, researchers,scientists and others to share their views, expertise and lived experiences, we deliver creative, innovative, award-winning programmes that enhance health and research for the benefit of everyone.

Based in Greater Manchester, we work locally, nationally and international to make a real difference. We are a not-for-profit organisation, hosted by Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust in partnership with The University of Manchester.

How and when do we collect information from you?

We obtain information about you when you use our website, for example when you contact us about getting involved in our projects, coming to our events, registering for a newsletter to hear more about our work, or getting in touch to hear more about our services.

What information do we collect from you?

The personal information that we collect from you can include your name, address, email address and telephone number.

How will we use your information?

We may use your information to:

  • Seek your views or comments on our projects;
  • Send you communications about our projects, events, training and opportunities to get involved which you have requested;
  • Communicate with you if you are taking part in one of our projects or groups;
  • Help us to evaluate the work that we do to connect patients and the public to research;

  • Process a grant or job application.

We retain personal information in line with The University of Manchester Records Retention Schedule. We will hold your personal information on our systems for as long as is needed for the relevant activities.

Who can access your information?

  • Those who work for Vocal can access your information, but as soon as they leave their access to Vocal systems will be removed.
  • We will not share your information with any third parties for marketing purposes.
  • We will not sell your information to third parties.

Third Party Service Providers working on our behalf

Many of our projects rely on us working collaboratively with external partners and subcontractors. Our collaborators must agree to and abide by this privacy policy to not use any information provided for their own direct marketing purposes. When we work with external partners and subcontractors we will only disclose the personal information that is needed in order to deliver the service, project or event.

Choosing whether or not you want us to contact you

You can choose whether you wish to receive information from us. If you don’t want to receive any direct marketing communications from us about our work and projects you just need to select the relevant box on the form where we collect your information. Evaluation and monitoring

An essential element of our work is to understand the demographic characteristics of the people ‘who we work with’ and connect to research. Therefore, we may analyse the information that you provide us with in order to understand the demographic profile of people who are getting involved in our projects and who are connecting with health care research in Greater Manchester.
